Anja
Rausch
Born in 1992 in Aschaffenburg, Anja Rausch is a painter whose work explores the relationship between opposites — fragility and force, inner and outer worlds, figuration and abstraction. Rooted in Jungian psychology, her art investigates transformational states, the human body, and the tension between physical surfaces and inner imagery.
Her paintings shift between microscopic detail and vast, cosmic structures, evoking biological and geological processes. The ambiguity of scale raises fundamental questions: Are these cellular structures or macrocosmic phenomena? Anatomical models or abstract energy fields? Rausch’s work resists simple classification, creating a space where perception constantly shifts.
Her process is both intuitive and methodical, starting with spontaneous compositions that evolve into near-photorealistic images through layered development. She explores materiality, light, and spatial depth, drawing inspiration from Renaissance techniques.
Rausch studied Visual Communication at Hochschule Darmstadt (2017) and later expanded her practice into spatial scenography. Since 2024, she has been pursuing a Master’s degree at HFBK Hamburg under Prof. Jorinde Voigt. Her first solo exhibition, Morbid Orbit, took place in Berlin in 2023, and her first gallery exhibition of the series will be held at MASSOUMI Gallery. Her first institutional show is scheduled at CICA Museum in Gimpo, South Korea, in Spring 2025.
At the core of her work is a paradox: the precise rendering of an abstract state. Through her layered textures and ambiguous forms, she immerses viewers in a realm where reality and imagination merge, offering an ever-shifting space of interpretation.
